Behind the Scrubs with Nurse Sarah
3 mins read
At Blueprint Nursing, we’re proud to support incredible nurses making a difference across Australia. Sarah Frater recently travelled the country with her family while taking on agency contracts, combining career, adventure, and flexibility. We’re so grateful she took the time to share her journey with us.
Here’s what she had to say:
Q: What’s one thing you’d say about your experience with Blueprint Nursing?
“Jake, my consultant, was fabulous – he really listened and accommodated what I was looking for and needed.”
Q: What advice would you give to other nurses considering locum or agency work?
“Go for it!! I was really nervous at the start but it was so worth it. Agency nursing is such a unique and rewarding experience, and the hospitals really appreciate and support you.”
Q: What do you love most about your current role or location in Australia?
“I loved that I could choose contracts close to the beach, and found my consultant really listened to the locations me and my family wanted to go.”
Q: What do you love most about agency nursing?
“I loved that you could pick how long you wanted to work for – whether it was a four-week contract or a 12-week stint. Super flexible.”
Q: What’s the biggest piece of advice you’d give to someone thinking about getting into it?
“Do it. The opportunities are endless, and doing agency gave me more options than my local hospital ever could.”
Q: What’s been the most memorable moment of your time nursing in Australia so far?
“The different locations you can work in! You can be in the middle of Australia one week and on the coast the next. If you love exploring, you’ll love what agency can offer.”
Q: How has working with Blueprint Nursing supported your goals or lifestyle?
“Working with Blueprint has been delightful. Jake was so lovely and kind in supporting my goals and lifestyle. We were travelling with our family, and when our van was damaged, Jake checked in daily and even arranged emergency accommodation. I’m extremely grateful to have had Jake as my consultant.”
Q: What’s one thing you wish you knew before starting agency work?
“I wish I knew which nursing fields were more in demand. There weren’t many medical contracts available, which made our travels a little harder to plan.”
